Sunday’s online service will be broadcast from the annual General Assembly of the Unitarian Universalist Association, this year’s largest North American gathering of UUs for worship. This year’s General Assembly is virtual. The inspired and highly recommended service will substitute for the regular UUFSMA online Sunday Service produced in San Miguel.
Recognizing the importance of shared ministry and the many innovative approaches to worship created by congregations during the pandemic, UUA President, Rev. Dr. Susan Frederick Gray, selected the First Universalist Church of Minneapolis to serve as worship leaders for this year’s GA Sunday Morning Service.
First Universalist has been a model of shared ministry and what it means to put the work of dismantling white supremacy and building anti-racist, anti-oppressive practices at the center of their ministry. The congregation has been on the front lines of support for the Movement for Black Lives in Minneapolis, providing spiritual care and moral leadership after George Floyd’s murder by police and the uprisings for justice that followed. Children and families are a vital part of their ministry, and they have been using creative approaches to engage all ages in worship during the pandemic. Their leadership exemplifies some of the best practices for the creativity, spiritual depth, and moral leadership that is possible when we embrace the work of shared ministry rooted in love and justice.
Today’s challenging times require a nimble and resilient spirituality. Our challenges call for demanding, inspiring faith and love strong enough that it will not let us go. Come to draw the circle wide, gather strength, and stay in the struggle until joy and love win.
The service will feature Musicians Franco Holder, Aimee K. Bryant, and Dr. Randal Buikema. Religious professionals Lauren Wyeth, Julica Hermann de la Fuente, and Reverends Arif Mamdani, Karen Hutt, and Jen Crow will lead the service.
Last year participants tuned in to the Sunday Morning Worship at GA through more than 10,000 screens! Join this nationwide audience again on Sunday, June 27 at 9 am PTZ, 10 am MTZ, 11 am CTZ, and Noon ETZ for this communal event. To participate online, you’re your browser to www.youtube.com and enter Unitarian Universalist Association in the search bar. Unitarian Universalism welcomes people of all ages, races, religions, sexual orientation, and gender identity to participate.

Our fellowship was born in 1987 when a small group of expatriate religious liberals came together to meet as Unitarian Universalists in San Miguel de Allende. The fellowship has been active and thriving ever since. Every UU church has it’s own flavor, and we are no exception. We are a combination of expats and visitors, each actively engaged and contributing to this wonderful Mexican community we love. Because there is a coming, going, and returning aspect, our spiritual community is extremely fluid. There is a magic in San Miguel which draws us in and binds us together—both as members of the church and of the larger community. Our programming is led by visiting ministers, community leaders, and church members, so the variety is lively. We have opportunities to meet as UU’s each week at discussion groups, breakfasts, luncheons, and in various other ways. Depending on the season, attendance fluctuates between 40 and 140. Our primary focus is on funding social action within the surrounding community. We love good music, good discussion, good food, and having visitors. We invite you to join us any Sunday morning.
