UUF SecretaryWe imagine that life follows a straight line even though it turns like a spiral with lessons which are often repeated and cause us to believe we deserve a break from too familiar experiences. In this Sunday’s service, the Rev. Amanda Poppei addresses this conundrum while drawing upon the labyrinth, the mythic structure of confusing passages corralling the monster Minotaur of ancient Crete. As many poets have also mused, it is a confinement of damning dead-ends from which forethought can thread an escape. From there Rev. Poppei will explore the constancy of change and how we can find ourselves transformed even when we feel like we are facing the same darn thing.
Rev. Poppei is the newly appointed senior minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from Yale University and a Master of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary. She has served in leadership positions with the Chesapeake UU Ministers Association, the UU Humanist Association, the National Leaders Council of the American Ethical Union, and the Washington Interfaith Network. She is also a member of the UUA’s Ministerial Fellowship Committee. She lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, with her spouse and two children aged 9 and 12. She devotes free time to embroidery, reading novels, and watching the fox that sometimes appears in her backyard.
