This Sunday join the Rev. Amanda Poppei in the online UUFSMA Sunday Service, where she will explore dashed expectations as America settles into the knowledge that COVID-19 is not going anywhere soon. In pursuing that theme, she will also explore the difference between accepting what must be accepted and fighting for things that need to be changed.
In counseling her audience, Rev. Poppei will draw upon Buddhist teachings and also ask participants to reflect upon the Serenity Prayer of the American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr. In addition to those influences, Rev. Poppei will describe how the radical philosopher, activist, and scholar Angela Davis speaks to this moment of political ascendancy for Black Lives Matter. Pianist Paula Peace will share some whimsical music, including such tunes as “When You Wish Upon A Star” and “It’s My Party.”
Rev. Poppei is the newly appointed senior minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from Yale University and a Master of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary. She has served in leadership positions with the Chesapeake UU Ministers Association, the UU Humanist Association, the National Leaders Council of the American Ethical Union, and the Washington Interfaith Network. She is also a member of the UUA’s Ministerial Fellowship Committee. She lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, with her spouse and two children aged 9 and 12. She devotes free time to embroidery, reading novels, and watching the fox that sometimes appears in her backyard.

Due to the arrival of the coronavirus in San Miguel de Allende, UUFSMA has indefinitely suspended in-person Sunday services and other gatherings. We advise members and friends to follow the advice of reputable public health authorities, such as the Centers for Disease Control, and to contact our Minister or Care Team for needed assistance. The UU Fellowship welcomes people of all ages, races, religions, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
