From apartheid South Africa to San Francisco to San Miguel de Allende, this Sunday’s UUFSMA Guest Speaker Jodi Pincus shares childhood experiences that influenced her values and work at the intersection of climate change and social justice.

During the fellowship’s online Sunday Service, Ms. Pincus will discuss turning points that helped her to understand and empathize with people of varied cultural, racial, social, and economic backgrounds. She will describe the human side of climate change and its existential threat to under-resourced communities, indigenous people, and people of color, all of whom will bear the brunt of a destabilizing climate. Her talk offers an opportunity to learn about efforts in the United States to address such change.

As a consultant, Ms. Pincus is well versed in the economics of inclusion, as well as strategies for “high-road” development of the workforce, innovative employment, and energy efficiency. The foundation for her present work rests upon more than 20 years of experience as a manager of nonprofit programs. For 12 years, she served as Executive Director of the Rising Sun Center for Opportunity. There she developed innovative “green” training and employment models recognized worldwide. The California Public Utilities Commission appointed her to its Disadvantaged Communities Advisory Board. She received the “Clean Energy for All 100% Campaign Award” from the Solutions Project in 2017.

Ms. Pincus holds a Green MBA from the Presidio Graduate School, San Francisco, and a BA in Peace and Conflicts studies from the University of California, Berkeley. Her commitment to justice emerged as a young citizen of South Africa, where she was born during the former apartheid state. She lived for a while on a Native American Reservation. She recently moved to San Miguel De Allende with her husband, two boys and a dog. She serves on the Board of SMA’s Ojala Ninos, a non-profit providing education to children in rural Mexico.
