Today we see so much suffering, pain, loss, and trauma everywhere. Likewise, most people carry within them the marks and wounds of past hurts, traumas, and losses. These days the entire world appears to be hungry for healing, and our era calls us to create a refuge where people can soothe and cure their spirits.
During this weekend’s UUFSMA Sunday Service, Guest Minister Reverend Tania Martínez Tadeo will share her belief in the healing power of community as she explores the ways a community of faith can become a haven for healing. Drawing upon her experience as a chaplain ministering to traumatized individuals, Rev. Tadeo has many insights to offer to a community such as the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Miguel de Allende, that opens its doors to those who seek healing, hope, and resiliency.
Rev. Tania currently serves as Resident Chaplain at a San Diego hospital. She is a spiritual care educator for the project “Trauma-Responsive Congregations” with the University of Boston’s School of Theology. She previously served as Assistant Minister of the First UU Church of San Diego. She graduated from Meadville Lombard Theological School and has a background in Latin American Literature. Rev. Tania is both an immigrant and a fronteriza. These aspects of her identity inspire her ministry and way of seeing the world.
She believes in the healing balm of community, ritual, and spiritual practices. Her ministry embodies cultural elements of her Mexican background and Latin American literature and education. She also discovers beauty in international cinema, good books, her teenage daughters, ocean vistas, and her many opportunities to inspire an awareness of community.
