More than 100 years ago, on a frosty January night in New Haven, Connecticut, five of the Yale Glee Club’s best singers convened at Mory’s Temple Bar to escape the cold. Louis Linder, the tavern’s barkeep and a music aficionado, welcomed them in, beginning an institution that survives to this day. In San Miguel, the celebrated Whiffs will present a repertoire of timeless classics and modern arrangements across numerous musical genres, in a program sure to delight! The program will raise funds for Chorale San Miguel’s 1875 Johnson and Sons pipe organ.

At 6 p.m., the Whiffs will perform at the Templo de la Tercera Orden, showcasing a dynamic repertoire of timeless classics and modern arrangements spanning various musical genres. This unique concert will also support a meaningful cause: raising funds for Chorale San Miguel’s historic 1875 Johnson and Sons pipe organ. Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy an extraordinary performance while contributing to the preservation of San Miguel’s musical heritage.

Chorale San Miguel presents concerts in large choral format, principally Masses, Oratorios, a cappella sacred music, and other choral and orchestral compositions of the last four centuries. Our venue is the historic Tercera Orden in the San Francisco convent complex, dating from the early 17th century, with excellent acoustics for choral music, as well as a lovely Johnson pipe organ built in 1875, and installed in the convent in the fall of 2023. Several free concerts are presented each year featuring the pipe organ, often in combination with instrumentalists or soloists. The Chorale is comprised of 30-40 auditioned singers, of whom a significant portion are professional singers, joining forces with talented area volunteer choral singers. Auditions are held periodically to augment the size of the chorus according to programming and performance needs for future concerts. The Chorale draws on local and regional participants, including orchestra musicians from regional professional orchestras in Guanajuato and Queretaro. Malcolm Halliday is the Artistic Director and Mauro Ledesma is Assistant Conductor.
