Tuesday June 21 at the Tercera Orden Temple (San Francisco & Juárez), we will enjoy the voices of the Grammy – award winning children’s chorus. Whose mission “… ignites a love of singing and nurtures the full expression of each individual’s potential for artistic and personal excellence through the collaborative experience of choral music performance.”
This is a very exciting event for SMA as we sponsor a concert of the Mexican tour of the LACC on June 21 at 7PM in the Third Order Chapel of San Francisco Church. Check out their website for complete information on the chorus lachildrenschorus.org including the fact that they just won a Grammy for vocal performance with LA Philharmonic.
This concert is sponsored by the San Miguel Chamber Music Festival, Festival de Música de Cåmara de San Miguel de Allende. This is the 44th Annual Festival in August 2022 and coming out of the virtual programming of the pandemic, we are taking a new form. We will continue to have international artists in August; to restore our monthly free concerts Music under the Trees;to continue master classes for advanced Mexican student musicians, but will add concerts throughout the year. We will take advantage of extraordinary touring groups like the one here and the Harvard/Radcliffe Orchestra which we sponsored May 31, but we will also institute a series of concerts especially for families to introduce them to the beautiful world of classical music.
This LACC concert will benefit the Festival’s family concert series. The Festival will also donate a portion of the proceeds to the Organ Project of the Third Order Chapel of San Francisco Church, an important addition to the music scene here in San Miguel.
Founded in 1986, the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus has been described as “hauntingly beautiful” by the Los Angeles Times, and praised by Esa-Pekka Salonen and Gustavo Dudamel, the former and present music directors of Los Angeles Philharmonic. Salonen calls the LACC “the best children’s chorus I have ever heard,” while Dudamel regards the choir as “one of the true artistic gems of Los Angeles.” At this year’s Grammy ceremony, Dudamel and the LACC shared in a Best Choral Performance award for their recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 8.
The LACC, with music director Fernando Malvar-Ruiz at the podium, will make its San Miguel debut on Tuesday, June 21, at 7pm in the chapel of the Templo de Tercera Orden (Third Order Temple), a large sanctuary with wonderful acoustics, located adjacent to the San Francisco Church (corner of San Francisco and Juarez).
All seats are reserved and on the ground floor, and ticket prices are in Mexican pesos: Orchestra (front rows), 500 pesos; and Parterre (back rows), 300 pesos.
The chorus’s diverse touring repertoire includes works of J.S. Bach and Franz Schubert, a medley from the musical Les Misérables, folk songs from Appalachia to Brazil, and many compositions that even adult choruses would find challenging. Not to be missed.
