  • Canadian-born Peter Ross turned his hand to writing thriller novels after a successful career as a business executive. An inveterate traveler, Ross’s favorite retreats included Collingwood and Temagami, in Ontario, and San Miguel de Allende. In 2021, he published Walleye, a crime thriller set in Temagami. It was just a matter of time before he wrote a thriller set in San Miguel.

That time is at hand. On Monday, March 24, Ross’s new novel, Zapatista: A Politically Charged Revolutionary Thriller, will be published both in trade paperback and Kindle editions. The novel’s inciting incident, the ritualistic crucifixion of a young Mexican matador, sets in motion an investigation into a fanatical terrorist who claims to take his inspiration from the supposedly defunct Zapatista revolutionary movement. San Miguel is the setting for much of the novel.

Fans of Ross’s writing are invited to attend a book launch celebration starting at 5:00pm on March 24, at Cent’anni Ristorante, Canal 34, in Centro. The ticket price is $550 MXN, and it includes a printed copy of Zapatista, a simple supper, and live music provided by one of the city’s best dance bands: Kiko Kornejo and the Mavericks. A vegetarian option will be available. Drinks are extra. There is no assigned seating.
