Prose Café is Back: “Seriously Funny” [] San Miguel Literary Sala

Ready for a change of pace? Tune in for our fun first event of the fall season. Prose Café is thrilled to feature three local writers who will make you laugh as they read their sharp, witty work for you, live via Zoom. Get ready for games, a book giveaway, and a stimulating question and answer session.

Educated in the UK and Canada, Geoff Hargreaves worked for the British Council in Spain. He will be reading from his novel, The Collector and the Blind Girl (available on Amazon), which has been described as a “dexterous blend of Graham Greene and P. G. Wodehouse.” For the last thirty years Geoff has had a home in Mexico, where he now lives permanently, translating Mexican novels, stories, and poems. Among them is the novel Seventy Times Seven by Ricardo Elizondo Elizondo, published by Floricanto Press. In July of this year, Barely Seen, a New York literary magazine, named him “Playwright of the Month.”

 Gabrielle Brie is a visual artist, author, and the founder of Rescue San Miguel, Facebook, which has saved hundreds of street dogs. Gabrielle’s debut memoir, Tap Dancing on a Hot Skillet, chronicles the rich and complex journey of an unforgettable Jewish family led by Brie’s charismatic but mentally challenged father. We root for the independent and passionate storyteller as she navigates the American South of the 1950s and 60s with her family’s adventures, secrets, disappointments, and dreams. Mark Saunders is a winner of the Walden Fellowship, awarded to three Oregon writers each year. His award-winning humorous memoir about dropping out and moving to Mexico, Nobody Knows the Spanish I Speak, is available through Knish Books (www.knishbooks.com) and Amazon. He recently published Dogs, Cats & Expats, a second book of essays. His short plays have been staged in North America and Europe. Mark co-founded Diez Minutos, San Miguel’s successful international ten-minute play festival now entering its eighth year. With five feature film scripts and two short scripts optioned, as well as a television pilot, his scripts have garnered insignificant awards and even less money. Mark once owned a Yugo (please don’t ask about the car).
