with
Natalie Taylor, Fernando Chávez, Laura Rodríguez,
Beatriz Zapata and José Luis Mendoza Aubert
by Rosaleen Bertolino
Please join us on November 14, when we premier Poetry & Prose Café’s first bilingual event. Original work will be read in both English and Spanish by the authors.
Natalie Taylor’s parents were from Ukraine, but she grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, then immigrated to the U.S. With a journalism degree from Loyola University, Chicago, and an MFA in Creative Writing, from Vermont College, her passion is writing—short stories, poetry, investigative articles on her weekly blog, as well as for the city’s local newspaper, Insiders News.
Fernando Chávez, born in San Miguel de Allende, in 1992, is a writer, translator, musician, and poet. A participant of La Musa Hosca workshop, he has written for magazines such as El Beisman and Punto Rojo, has published in anthologies, and has won awards in various literary competitions.
Laura Rodríguez is a native of San Miguel de Allende, with many years’ experience producing events, and working with civil associations. She considers herself a bridge to the diversity of this city and a cultural pollinator in each of its facets.
Beatriz Zapata is an actress and director, and theater is her passion. Her other passion is poetry, which was born when at a very young age she heard the Spanish actress Nati Mistral reciting “Ovejillos,” by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, and was overwhelmed.
José Luis Mendoza Aubert, 72 years old, is a multitalented artist. An actor, director, theater technician, and retired art professor, he is also a musician and writer of essays and poetry. In addition, as a social activist, he also gives talks about social consciousness and ecology to groups of children and young people.
Poetry & Prose Café is an all-volunteer organization that presents local and visiting writers reading original work. Admission is free but we appreciate a minimum donation of $100 pesos per person. These donations underwrite the costs of graphic design, promotional efforts, venue costs, and sound rentals. Authors books will be for sale at our no-commission book table.
Please arrive a few minutes early, seating is limited.
