San Miguel Poetry Café Presents Celebrated Poet Judyth Hill;
First of Three Special ‘Poetry Alive!’ Readings

Internationally acclaimed poet Judyth Hill will read and discuss her poetry via Zoom in a special Poetry Alive! presentation of the San Miguel Poetry Café on November 19, 2020, 5:00 PM CST. The online event is free of charge. Pre-registration is required at https://sanmiguelliterarysala.org/

Judyth will headline the first of three exciting solo-poet events confirmed for this season’s Poetry Alive! series, followed by Richard Blanco (Nov. 30, 2020) and Cecilia Woloch (Jan. 28, 2021).

“Judyth Hill’s exuberant, heart-felt poetry is well known in San Miguel de Allende. During the 10 years she lived here, she nurtured dozens of emerging and aspiring poets and writers. She continues to organize local readings and workshops, and to serve as president of San Miguel PEN Centre,” said Maia Williams, founder of the San Miguel Poetry Café and host of the event.

Judyth Hill, poet, author, teacher, and editor, lives in the aspen-swept mountains of Colorado; her heart also resides in San Miguel de Allende and Sapello, New Mexico. Her nine published poetry books include Dazzling Wobble and Tzimtzum. Her poems are widely anthologized. Judyth has co-authored cookbooks and textbooks; she was the Santa Fe, NM, restaurant critic for Albuquerque Journal, and creator/owner of Santa Fe’s premier bakery, The Chocolate Maven.

Judyth conducts poetry and memoir workshops at conferences worldwide, including San Miguel Writers’ Conference. She authored poetry curricula for the Georgia O’Keeffe and Folk Art Museums in Santa Fe, NM, and is the poet-in-residence at schools throughout the U.S. She offers classes, manuscript editing, and mentoring online and leads global WildWriting Culinary Adventures.

Her internationally acclaimed poem, “Wage Peace,” published worldwide, is set to music, performed, and recorded by national choirs and orchestras. The St. Helena Examiner describes her as “energy with skin”; The Denver Post calls her “a tigress with a pen.” Educated at Sarah Lawrence College, she studied with Robert Bly, Galway Kinnell, and ecologist Dolores LaChapelle.

Following her reading, Judyth will discuss the genesis of one of her poems. Wrapping up the hour, poet Catherine Marenghi will moderate a Q&A between audience members and Judyth.

Founded in January 2016, the San Miguel Poetry Café convenes monthly, September through April, and also holds special events. The all-volunteer organization presents local and visiting poets, both established and emerging.
