November 1st and 2nd, the celebration of Day of the Dead, that UNESCO has recognized as Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Celebrations throughout the country, which are celebrated differently in all corners of the country, through its streets, neighborhoods, and families. An important part of this celebration is the placement of altars and offerings.1 level, 7 levels, 20 levels, flowers of cempasúchil, sugar calaveritas, photos of our dead ones, food that they liked … Which elements should the altar of Day of the Dead must have?
In this talk we will learn about the placement of altars and offerings during the Day of the Dead Festival. We will know about the altars that are placed in homes, in cemeteries, in squares, and parks. The basic elements that has, the meanings of them, a tour of the different altars that are in the country.
We will also know how the conception of the altars has changed from pre-Hispanic times to the present. The syncretism that exists in recent years and the religious, cultural and spiritual influence.
The altar and the Day of the Dead offerings have different meanings, as well as the dates on which they should be placed. The process that has been taking place since days before and the way in which the altar is retired days later. Many people take this time as a solemn moment, of sadness, of memory. In other places the altar is a reason for glory, honor, celebration, and happiness.
Our Day of the Dead celebrations are full of meanings, of learning, of culture, of stories that year after year captivate Mexicans and foreigners. Join us in this talk where we will know all these details and will make us see death with different eyes.
