Kali Holloway
Kali Holloway is a journalist who has been a prolific writer on issues of racism. We will talk with her about her writings and the reckoning with racism now going on in the United States.Since the police murder of George Floyd and the ensuing Black Lives Matter protests that rocked the country last year, racism has been front and center in much of our nation’s public discussion. We are challenged to address systemic racism in our institutions, public and private practices and in our collective memory.
Our national history is being contested. The importance of slavery since 1619 in shaping the nation, oppression and exploitation of Black people ever since, continuing discrimination today and the rule of white power is the dark underside of the nation’s history. Many feel threatened by it, clinging to the illusion that the US is a shining city on a hill, a beacon to the world of liberty and democracy.Reacting to the fuller story of the country, they are passing laws in many states banning the teaching of Critical Race Theory.
What we do The Center engages in local community support and outreach to promote and advance initiatives and movements toward social justice, grassroots empowerment and democracy, and environmental sustainability. It is also devoted to critical analysis of the processes and impacts of globalization, both local and international. The Center works to develop alternative socio-economic systems that conserve and share the world’s cultural, economic, and environmental resources for the benefit of humankind.
