The Secret In Their Eyes (2009) Argentina. In Spanish with English Subtitles
The film follows the story of a retired criminal court investigator, Benjamin Esposito. He is haunted by the memories of an unsolved case about the killing of a woman. After 25 years, he decides to reopen the investigation in an attempt to find closure and bring the perpetrator to justice. As he dives back into the case, the film unfolds through a series of flashbacks, taking us through the original investigation and unveiling how it affected the lives of Benjamin, his boss Irene , and the victim’s husband. The narrative seamlessly blends elements of crime and romance, as Benjamin grapples with his unresolved feelings for Irene while trying to solve the case. This film won the Oscar for Best International Film.
Following the film there will be a film analysis and discussion with independent filmmaker and scholar Elías Nahmías who has studied and worked in every aspect of filmmaking for 40 years.

La película sigue la historia de un investigador de tribunales penales retirado, Benjamin Esposito. Le persiguen los recuerdos de un caso sin resolver sobre el asesinato de una mujer. Después de 25 años, decide reabrir la investigación para intentar cerrar el caso y llevar al autor ante la justicia. Mientras se sumerge de nuevo en el caso, la película se desarrolla a través de una serie de flashbacks, que nos llevan a través de la investigación original y desvelan cómo afectó a las vidas de Benjamin, su jefa Irene y el marido de la víctima. La narración mezcla a la perfección elementos de crimen y romance, ya que Benjamin se enfrenta a sus sentimientos no resueltos por Irene mientras intenta resolver el caso. Esta película ganó el Oscar a la mejor película internacional.
