Master Class & More: Taking Your Writing to the Next Level

In addition to the San Miguel Literary Sala’s Distinguished Speaker Series Presentation: Uncovering Family Secrets with Danielle Trussoni & Julie Metz, July 18 at 6:00–7:30 PM, and the monthly workshops, the Sala offers up some additional exciting events:
Book Proposal Master Class
In this 2-month, 6-class intensive online workshop for nonfiction writers, Anna Knutson Geller, who has nearly twenty years of experience in the publishing industry, will lead you through everything you need to know to craft a winning book proposal. You will leave this workshop, entitled Bang Out Your Book Proposal, with a finished book proposal that is ready to submit to agents. To participate in this 6-Part Master Class, you need to submit an application and be approved by the instructor. Space is limited.
Price for the six-part class is $1,800 USD. An Early Bird discount of $1500 USD is available if you submit an application by June 15, 2021.

Oscar Plazola will lead a narrative workshop on verse and rhyme entitled RaPoesía. This workshop, taught in Spanish, will assist you in writing verse and setting it to music. It will expose you to great poets and rappers and introduce you to the sonnet, romance, couplet, tenths and how to apply them to structures used in Rap. This two-part online class will be held on July 22 & 23 at 5:30–7:00 PM CDT.
Oscar Plazola dirigirá un taller narrativo sobre verso y rima titulado RaPoesía. Este taller, que se enseña en español, le ayudará a escribir versos y ponerle música. Te expondrá a grandes poetas y raperos y te presentará el soneto, el romance, el pareado, la décima y cómo aplicarlos a las estructuras utilizadas en el rap. Esta clase en línea de dos partes se llevará a cabo el 22 y 23 de julio de 5: 30–7:00 PM CDT.
In Focus Series
In this online In Focus Series event, Gabrielle Brie, fine artist and poet, will read from her debut memoir, Tap Dancing on a Hot Skillet. Her new novel is a coming of age story about growing up in a Jewish family of six in the Deep South. This exciting reading will be held on July 23 at 5:00–6:00 PM CDT.
Silent Write
Good writing takes practice! Silent Write is a monthly non-critique writing group hosted by Nathan Feuerberg. This free online class (donations accepted) will meet on July 14 at 7:30 PM CDT. Participants will write for an hour with the aid of writing prompts. At the end of the hour, session participants will have the option of sharing their work with the class.
