Julia Rowe, dancer; Jonah Kim, cello; Javier García-Lascurain, piano; Clif Foster, violin

Zoltán Kodály: Duo for Violin and Cello, Op. 7
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Aurora’s Solo from The Sleeping Beauty
    Camille Saint-Saëns: The Swan
Felix Mendelssohn: Molto Allegro agitato from Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49

Cellist Jonah Kim has been called “the next Yo-Yo Ma” by the Washington Post and “Pablo Casals reincarnated” by the Korean International Arts Review. San Francisco Ballet soloist Julia Rowe was lauded by the San Francisco Chronicle as “crisp and buoyant,” a dancer whose “triumph is especially sweet for those who have followed her trajectory.” Pianist Javier García-Lascurain wowed local audiences last year with his performance of the Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor. Violinist Clif Foster is a noted soloist, and an in-demand session musician whose credits include having been Yanni’s concertmaster.

In a special matinee concert featuring all four performers, Rowe will dance two ballet solos to music by Tchaikovsky and Saint-Saëns, Kim and Foster will perform Kodály’s fiendishly difficult Duo for Violin and Cello, and the three musicians will play one of Mendelssohn’s most popular works, the melody-rich Molto Allegro agitato from his Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor.

The concert venue chosen for this event is the theater in El Sindicato, the cultural center at Recreo #4, in Centro. (The original venue, the Third Order Chapel, was passed over to allow for a larger stage for Julia Rowe and superior sight lines for all attendees.)

The Sindicato theater is an intimate space, with an official seating capacity of only 108, and room for a dozen or so additional seats. This event is expected to sell out, and advance purchase is advised. To purchase reserved-seat tickets, click on either of the BUY TICKETS buttons in this newsletter, or visit boletocity.com. Ticket prices range from 450 pesos to 750 pesos.

This concert is one of five being presented this August by the San Miguel Chamber Music Festival. For information about the other events, please visit festivalsanmiguel.com or boletocity.com.
