It might be said that Harry Burrus is going to the dogs – and the cats. There’s a reason for that. He walks dogs three hours a day every day at the S.P.A which he calls his major reservoir for learning about life. Harry is the vice director of San Miguel de Allende’s Sociedad Protectora de Animals and he has a passion about the animals housed in the green building off Calzada de la Estacion on Pinos.
In existence since 1980, the Sociedad Protectora de Animales de San Miguel de Allende is the only no-kill shelter for dogs and cats in San Miguel de Allende. It enthusiastically seeks permanent and loving homes for its resident animals (about 100 in all). In addition, the S.P.A has an on-site clinic, staffed with a full-time vet and veterinary assistant, open to the public 6 days a week. It takes care of the S.P.A.’s resident animals and offers low-cost medical care for pets owned by the public. As most people clearly recognize, there is an overpopulation of stray dogs and cats in SMA. The Midday Rotary Club presentation on October 9th will give attendees an opportunity to hear more on what is being done, and what can be done about this growing problem.
Harry Burrus is the writer-director of the feature film Marrakech. He has published eight collections of poetry written a novel, seven plays, and several articles. He has advanced degrees in writing and communication studies. In the 1980s, Burrus and wife and came to San Miguel and it was the only Mexican city they returned to before buying a home.
Join the Midday Club of San Miguel de Allende on Tuesday, October 9th for this presentation from one of our town’s more accomplished residents. We meet Tuesday morning from 9 to 10:30AM at the The San Miguel Essen restaurant, located next to the yellow caboose on Sterling Dickinson. Admission is free plus there is an optional breakfast for 100 pesos.
