It’s been a long time coming. The endless traffic on SMA’s Libramiento has been a source of frustration for locals and visitors for the last few years. Finally, a plan was adopted and construction began last year on making the long needed changes to the major beltway around the city.
The Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende is most excited to welcome Juan Alberto Ponce Galindo as our guest speaker next Tuesday. Señor Galindo is the Sub-secretary of Infrastructure for the state of Guanajuato and is one of the main people involved in the planning and construction of this project.
This project is, in short, massive. The traffic circle at Salida Querétaro was replaced with a more traditional intersection, traffic lights have been installed along the Libramiento, and the main log jam, the Pipila Glorietta, has been razed to make way for a new underpass. The work is being paid from a state payroll tax and consists of the construction of a vehicular underpass with two lanes in each direction.
What will the final result be? Join us Tuesday July 21 at 9:30 am and learn more about this project and how it will improve the traffic flow throughout the greater SMA metro.
For the safety of our members and guests, The Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende is video conferencing all meetings via Zoom. Using this technology will enable the club to meet on a weekly basis and still reach out to the community. While residents continue to self isolate within the safety and comfort of their own homes, members of the public are still welcome to attend our meetings using Zoom.
