The Pandemic Effect
When: Tuesday April 28, 2020 9:30 AM
Location: Online using Zoom
Mexico is now in Phase 3 of the Coronavirus pandemic. Government and health experts say Phase 3 is the most serious, As both expats and natives adjust to even more stringent efforts to stop the spread of Covid-19, concerns increase on the health and welfare of the residents of San Miguel de Allende and especially to our municipality’s most needy.
The Pandemic Effect on our community is devastating and this will be our central topic at Tuesday’s on line Rotary Meeting.
Our guest speaker is Francisco Garay Russo, Director of the Office of Economic Development and International Affairs for the City of San Miguel de Allende. His department’s main goal is to work as a team with NGOs to economize their resources, and how to get NGOs into places where the help has been limited.. Garay Russo will join our meeting via Zoom to comment specifically on how the community is being impacted. Everyone’s thoughts are now with the small businesses that depend of tourism dollars for survival, and the community’s most needy, who now have to worry about where their next meal will come from. Garay Russo will discuss the city’s response to these needs and what all of us can do to help.
Francisco Garay Russo is a native of San Miguel with an impressive resume that includes public policy and international affairs at Princeton University, and Kaiser Associates in Washington DC. He has a master’s degree in corporate law from Stanford University and worked for a law firm in New York before returning San Miguel. He also worked on Luis Alberto Villarreal’s mayoral campaign.
Will the city recover? And if so, what are the official timeline projections. This could be the most important meeting the Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende has ever hosted. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 28th at 9:30 AM when The Midday Club of San Miguel de Allende is welcomes Francisco Garay Russo.
With mandatory shelter in place orders, the Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende is now video conferencing all meetings via Zoom. Using this technology will enable the club to meet on a weekly basis and still reach out to the community.
While residents continue to self isolate within the safety and comfort of their own homes, members of the public are still welcome to attend our meetings by sending an email to secretaryrotarysma@mail.com (not Gmail). You’ll receive an email with instructions on being a part of this week’s meeting. Rotary is where neighbors, friends and problem-solvers share ideas, join leaders and take action to create lasting change.
