Apoyo Escolar invites you to a visit/open house at the Nuevo Pantoja primary school, which we have been supporting various resources. This open house will take place on Tuesday, March 21st, at 9 a.m. The school is on ejido land inside the Libramiento behind City Market. There are six grades and 165 students. The resources we have provided have included English teaching, assistance in remedial Spanish reading, a school garden, a library, Internet/WiFi service and computers for digital learning. Apoyo Escolar has also facilitated field trips to the EEESMA (school for hearing impaired) and is currently working on another to El Charco de Ingenio.
We also support other NGOs that assist this school: Feed the Hungry with a kitchen and food service, Libros para Todas with their “Big Read” program, Three Kings’ celebrations, Tikkum for tree planting and Fundacion de Apoyo Infantil with garden and field trip help. Principal Julieta Rodriguez Olalde will have speakers that cover the whole range of activities and student demonstrations. The program starts at 9AM and will be concluded by 11:30.
For getting to the school, first find it on Google Maps: 20.898237, -100.749594 To get to the school, find these coordinates on Google Maps and plan your route.
For driving, 1) turn right off Cinco de Mayo at the Moras intersection and continue on this narrow street until you see the school off to the right, or 2) come down the hill on the Libramiento and turn right onto the dirt before Libertad and continue on this tiled street until the “Y” where you take a hard left. The school has a white brick wall and is one row of buildings below this “Y”.
For walking, from Cinco de Mayo go right at the Moras intersection and continue along this paved commercial street for about 5 blocks. The school is on the right. Alternatively, start at Pollo Feliz (across from La Comer) and go up the hill along the Libramiento. At the Barbacoa sign, turn left on this dusty dirt road and walk a long block. The school is to the right in the middle of the block.
Apoyo Escolar is a small 501c3 NGO run by Bill and Jane Wilkinson and a wonderful corps of volunteers who work with rural schools. The NGO has current projects in primaries at Nuevo Pantoja, Salitrillo, La Medina, Estancia de San Antonio, El Aguila and Estancia de Canal.
