Travel Sketch Oaxaca
with Suhita ShirodkarOctober 8 to 13th
Pack your most colorful paints and head on south of the border to fascinating Oaxaca City for a 6-day, 5-night travel sketching workshop with artist/instructor Suhita Shirodkar, and Art Leap Adventures. We’ve created a safe and dynamic agenda that has us visiting many of the local sights in the centro of Oaxaca City, as well as a field trip to the archeological site to see and sketch the sacred pyramids, and the infamous black pottery studios. Oaxaca is on the top of many “Must-See” tourist destinations, and this is your opportunity to not only sketch your travels with top-notch instructor Suhita, but to also immerse yourself into the hip art scene and soulful flavors of this vibrant southern Mexican city.
Art Leap Adventures is a art workshop tour agency based in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico, and operator and travel sketcher Meagan Burns has spent the past several years organizing and managing safe and fascinating destinations within Mexico for sketchers to enjoy. Meagan is also a volunteer writer for Urban Sketchers, and has been contributing monthly articles to the Drawing Attention newsletter. By doing so, Meagan has met and interviewed many featured Urban Sketching instructors and Chapter members. Meagan first interviewed Suhita Shirodkar three years ago, and began the conversation of working together, which they are now doing.
Suhita Shirodkar has been a part of the Urban Sketchers community since its inception, and has been an instructor at almost every annual Urban Sketchers’ Symposium since the beginning. She’s a freelance graphic designer and illustrator, and Suhita travels the world teaching workshops with Urban Sketchers and others. A native of India, once she discovered the magic colors and chaos of Mexico, she knew she wanted to explore the country more, as it reminded her of home.
We’ll spend five nights in this enchanting southern Mexican city, and each morning we’ll gather in our home base located behind the Santo Domingo Church for local breakfast snack, coffee and conversation with Suhita and fellow participants, while discussing our lessons and watching the demo for the day. There’ll be plenty of time for one-on-one interaction with our instructor, as well as time spent reviewing sketchbook progress. Lunch and dinner will be spent with the group if you wish, and we’ll explore delicious local restaurants so you’ll be certain to try the unique flavors of this Mexican region that are like no other.
If you’re ready to experience the sights, sounds, moles, mezcal and cacaos of vibrant Oaxaca, while learning how to capture the energy of your travels in your sketchbook with a top travel sketch instructor, pack your bags and meet us in brilliant Oaxaca City!
