The nicho is an essential piece of Mexican crafts, they originate in simple boxes that families bought to decorate them with images of saints and virgins. Over the years these boxes lose their religious character to shelter more carefree images and to be used, especially skulls and representations of the Day of the Dead, turning into fun and festive altarpieces for any occasion and to decorate any corner of the home.
The niches are originally made in Oaxaca and San Miguel de Allende, two of the areas most recognized for their quality and creativity. The niche can be made of wood or metal and can have the shape of boxes, a cross, a heart, among other shapes.
Joannee Babiak, will be giving this workshop on the elaboration of Mexican Niches, as she did in Jalisco, now in San Miguel de Allende. In this two-hour workshop you will learn a little about the history and culture around this craft, choose a piece of metal to decorate to your liking and you will learn how to give it a fun and beautiful appearance
PLEASE SHARE YOUR ABUNDANCE
We believe that a safe place where children can gather and be guided without judgement is a place where their curiosity and creativity can have no limits. We believe that this kind of environment stimulates thought, imagination and the potential to find liberation from poverty, ignorance and oppression; and can lead to personal pride, strength of character and the desire to build a cooperative community.
You may make a monthly subscription or a one-time donation.
