LAS ABOGADAS Documentary Screenings to Benefit ABBA House Migrant Shelter

Two special screenings of the award-winning documentary LAS ABOGADAS: Attorneys on the Front Lines of the Migrant Crisis will be held at
Tuesday, September 26 at 5.30pm and
Tuesday, October 10 at 5pm
at Teatro Santa Ana at the Biblioteca, Relox 50A.

This internationally-acclaimed feature-length film follows a group of immigration attorneys over a multi-year odyssey as the U.S. government under President Trump upends every law meant to protect those fleeing from persecution, violence and war.

The story begins here in San Miguel de Allende when local attorney Rebecca Eichler set up a legal clinic in a Volkswagen bus in the middle of 5000 desperate migrants traversing central Mexico en route to the US in late 2018. From forcing border guards to follow the law and accept a blind woman into U.S.custody, to counseling African migrants stuck in Tijuana, to giving legal advice in the brutally hot Mexican sun to families desperate to see American soil — we watch our characters’ surreal journeys to try and help.

All proceeds from this screening will benefit the Latin American Relief Fund (LARF), a US non-profit organization whose mission is to support humanitarian organizations that assist migrants and refugees in Mexico, including Albergue ABBA, the migrant shelter featured in LAS ABOGADAS.

Featured abogada and LARF Board Member, Rebecca Eichler, will be in attendance for a conversation following the screening.
