UUFSMA Board SecretarySo very little seems to be in our control—the pace of justice, the likelihood of averting a full-scale climate crisis, our own mortality, and that of those we love. Under such conditions, how can we possibly set intentions for our futures? And what kind of intentions could they be?
This Sunday’s Guest Minister, the Reverend Rita Capezzi offers her answers to these questions and invites you to consider your own. One source for exploration is the marvelous 2017 novel The Overstory by Richard Powers. Another is the biology of insects. Through unexpected and surprising modes of knowing and being, the natural world becomes a foundation for personal possibilities.
Rev. Rita Capezzi spent her childhood and youth as a native of Pittsburgh, PA. For 25 years, she lived and raised a family in Buffalo, NY. While working as an English professor at a Jesuit college, she enjoyed international travel to Europe, Southern India, and Tanzania with students and colleagues. She entered Meadville Lombard Theological School in 2015. Since granted fellowship by the Unitarian Universalist Association in 2018, Rev. Capezzi has served the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Mankato, Minnesota, as its first full-time minister.
Beginning in September
Young Explorers, a new monthly program for kids 7 to 13 years, provides a space for children to explore a wide range of values, including respect, justice, compassion, responsibility, environmental protection and more. The UUFSMA series will occur on the first Sunday of the month (September 2022 to May 2023), 10:30 to 11:30 AM at Posada de la Aldea Hotel (2nd floor). The free program will accommodate both English and Spanish speakers. For more information or to register contact anne.geyer@comcast.net or chris.chase1955@gmail.com
Unitarian Universalism is a liberal faith inviting its community to gather around a set of harmonizing values and principles for living. Our UU Fellowship welcomes people of all ages, races, religions, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Belief in a divinity is not the central issue around which we gather for worship and generous action. Rather, we come together with a belief in community, love, compassion, social justice, and reverence for nature, all within the interconnected web of existence.
