The Literary Festival and Book Fair is in the Jarden and the Casa de Allende Historical Museum; it will be held in a hybrid way (face-to-face and virtual) from February 10 to 14. The young party of letters is here!
As the first literary activity that will be offered this year by Ediciones La Rana, a publishing house that is part of the State Institute of Culture, is the Literary Festival and Book Fair of San Miguel de Allende (FELISMA), which will take place from February 10 to 14 of this year.
Also known as “La fiesta joven de las letras” for its recently fifteenth anniversary, the guest publisher has two activities to highlight, the first is the presentation of the book “Cuando te hablen de amor y de ilusiones” by Paloma Jiménez Gálvez and the second text is “Alimañas”, stories by Rodrigo Díaz Guerrero.
Written by Paloma Jiménez Gálvez, the work “Cuando te hablen de amor y de ilusiones”, which takes up the lyrics of a song composed by her father, will take place at the Historical Museum of the Casa de Allende and will be attended by José Guillermo Azanza and Mauricio Vázquez.
In the words of Juan Villoro: “Whatever they talk to you about love and illusions is the story of a devotion. The author pays her father the tribute of affection, but also uses a resource that we do not always exercise before a being too close: understanding. Through the lyrics of his songs, he deciphers the chiaroscuros of the composer and traces suggestive links with authors from other eras and latitudes”.
Paloma Jiménez Gálvez was born in Mexico City. He worked for the National Tourism Council of Mexico during his stay in France. He studied at the University of the Cloister of Sor Juana, then studied the master’s degree in Modern Letters at the Universidad Iberoamericana and the doctorate at the same institution with the project “Comovisión y sujeto lírico en la obra de José Alfredo Jiménez”. Together with other people he developed the project of the José Alfredo Jiménez House Museum of which she is currently president.
The winner of the Efrén Hernández State Short Story Prize in its 2020 edition, Rodrigo Díaz Guerrero, will talk about his winning work “Alimañas”, in which Nahum Torres and José María Moreno will also participate, whose presentation will take place in the same space as the previous one.
About the work, the author commented that the text was born within the seminar “Efrén Hernández”, organized by the Fund for Guanajuato Letters in 2017, from then on the text fed it for three years. “The forced confinement by Covid-19 could not have been more fruitful in this regard, neither more inspiring nor a better trench,” said the writer.
The freelance storyteller and graphic designer, Rodrigo Díaz Guerrero, was born in Mexico City but has lived for more than a decade in San Miguel de Allende. He is the founding director of the magazine Dos Puntos and currently manages the dirty realism short story blog La Conjura.
