The municipal government is already working on a plan, for the development of a project for the benefit of dogs, especially those who do not have a home. Apparently, this plan contemplates the construction of a canine hospital, but it would be more than that, it would be a ‘first world recreational center’, as indicated by the director of Environment and Sustainability, Alejandro Castro.
When the director was asked about the plan for a dog hospital, which has been requested by the citizens for several years but has not arrived, he said that in this administration they are doing something about it, because they are already working on it.
“The answer is yes, I do not have dates, I do not have amounts, we are in talks with civil associations interested in the subject, about 6 are involved, with whom we are making revisions, we are talking to see what the needs are, I have some ideas, a general idea, a concept of that place, it will not be a hospital, it will not be a shelter, it will be a kind of recreational center, we do not want it to be a simple shelter because we would fall in the same as now, right? We don’t want it to be a simple shelter because we would fall into the same situation we are in now, wouldn’t we?
“We want to give it a different dimension, we want it to be an avant-garde project, in keeping with San Miguel de Allende, a first-world city, a city of international stature, and we want to give it a space that corresponds to the context we have here,” he added.
From previous administrations he says he has no idea what they did for the care of the canines, but that in this administration they are going to do something about it because there are already talks, there are already preparations and they have already been consulting experts to start the project.
At the beginning of next year, they would be giving more detailed information, “although everything depends on the resources available”, emphasized the director.
About the facilities of Control Canino, the place where the homeless animals are kept, he said that they are basic but they are kept clean and ventilated and that the dogs that are in them have food, medical attention, veterinary care, and the 10 new dogs that arrived from the operation of Lomas de San José, are also having all the attention, they have a space, they have a place to run, to walk, they go for walks, etc., “They are better than they were, definitely”, he said.
