More than a thousand people participated in the Catrinas Parade in San Miguel de Allende, including locals and travelers from abroad and nationals, and as 18 years ago this tradition began, the center of San Miguel de Allende was filled with color, music helped to make the atmosphere festive and was the prelude to receiving the souls on the night and early morning of November 1st, 2021.
The route
It began on El Cardo Street, followed by Ancha de San Antonio, then Zacateros, passed through Umarán, and ended at the Main Square with the Parish of San Miguel as a backdrop. The contingents are made up of students from high schools, universities, members of the hotel communities, restaurateurs, service clubs, non-governmental organizations, stores, and neighbors.
Over the years it has become common for travelers to join the parade in costume and experience the Day of the Dead traditions in San Miguel de Allende.
Of bands and mojigangas
During the tour, the wind band leads the parade together with the mojigangas of the master cartonero and mojingaguero Hermés, which are an emblem of San Miguel and nearby towns.Travelers were able to appreciate the creativity that went into the costumes, as there was even a costume contest at the end of the Catrinas Parade in San Miguel de Allende.
Music is a must: the mariachis, the estudiantinas, and the wind band are in charge of spicing up this event.
One of the curious notes of the parade is that a large part of the contingent is made up of foreigners who give candy to the children; that is, the traditional calaverita.
