The arrival of investments in the automotive sector was a fundamental part of the recovery of 43,000 jobs out of the 50,000 that were lost in the state during the Covid-19 pandemic, explained Ramón Alfaro Gómez, Undersecretary of Employment and Labor Training of the Ministry of Economic and Sustainable Development (SDES). Recovery has also been presented in the leather footwear sectors in Leon, as well as services and tourism in the rest of the entity.
“Today if we compare it with the previous year, we have more than 36 thousand jobs in relation to the previous year, that is important the recovery of jobs and especially those that were lost as a result of the pandemic that were 50 thousand formal jobs, approximately 43 thousand jobs have already been recovered,” he said.
He added that at the pace Guanajuato is going, with new investments, the return to classes and the reactivation of business tourism, the recovery of jobs in 2021 will be absolute since the 7 thousand jobs that are still pending are in the leather footwear sector and the tourism sector.
“In companies of the footwear sector they are already demanding orders, they are requiring personnel for the second semester of the year and well these are indicators and traffic lights that can allow us that the pandemic and the macroeconomic situation of the country allows it, it will be a good closing of the year for the economic activity in the state”, he commented.
The leather footwear sector still needs to recover between 1,500 and 2,000 formal jobs, in the tourism sector, especially in the business and services sector, it is expected to recover 5,000 jobs throughout the state, a goal that is achievable, with the reactivation rhythm that Guanajuato is having and the sanitary conditions of Covid-19.
The Undersecretary of Employment and Labor Training explained that in the case of business tourism there are still several important events to be held in the last quarter of the year and that the recent Industrial Transformation Mexico Fair (ITM) at the Hannover Messe, gives a good sign for the sector, in addition to the fact that ANPIC is still missing.
“Today we can say that we have positive figures in our footwear industry, it is already the second month in a row that begins to have positive indicators, obviously the appliance industry, the plastics industry, the automotive industry, are among the most dynamic sectors that have been providing jobs to Guanajuato and us with that expectation and seeing that the tourism and services sector is also reactivating,” he said.
Alfaro Gómez commented that at this moment companies are already starting to demand jobs and that everything looks like a favorable recovery so that more Guanajuatans have more formal jobs and that this year they will reach the levels they had in 2019.
