Celebrate the Day of the Dead in San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel de Allende is ready to host the Day of the Dead celebrations with face-to-face and virtual activities.

The month of September inaugurated the season of the year with the best celebrations of the year, such as the cry of September 15, and the traditional day of the dead, that is why the various tourist destinations, are already getting ready to receive all tourists, as in the case of San Miguel de Allende, that will carry out various activities around the day of the dead.
With the aim of preserving the traditions in the municipality, the Directorate of Culture and Traditions prepared a special program to celebrate the Day of the Dead, which runs from October 27 to November 7, which includes various face-to-face activities, but also online, so you can enjoy them from the comfort and safety of your home.
Due to the health contingency that is experienced by the pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus, some activities that were carried out in a traditional way in the entity, had to be suspended and others modified, in order to adapt them to this new reality and to be able to attend and respect the sanitary measures proposed by the Ministry of Health and avoid contagion.
Face-to-face activities
The program for face-to-face activities covers from October 30 to November 2, unfortunately the parade of catrinas that was made year after year within the entity was suspended in order to avoid contagion among the participants and attendees, however; instead of the parade there will be various activities such as offerings, skull painting workshops, photographic exhibitions, plays.There will be several tours in various parts of the city, where attendees can see a series of altars dedicated to those who have already been ahead of us, this in order to avoid crowds.
The pantheon of the town, San Juan de Dios, will remain open to the public, although it will be needed to register before, as access will be allowed in small groups, no more than 30 people and can only stay in the place an estimated time of 30 minutes. Registration can be done by calling (415) 154 56 70.
In the same way, hotels and restaurants will have their day of the dead celebration offering special menus to their tenants, in addition to including activities such as small parades of catrinas, musical presentations, among others. It is worth mentioning that all activities will be carried out in compliance with health security protocols.
Another of the activities that will be in San Miguel de Allende is a tour where you will visit different points of the city to observe four giant skulls that are distributed in the Civic Square, in the Insurgentes Square, in the Zeferino Park and in the Juárez Park.
Virtual activities
For all those who cannot travel, San Miguel de Allende prepared a program with different virtual activities so that everyone can be part of the great celebration. Online activities will begin from October 27.Among the activities that can be enjoyed from home are workshops, concerts and presentations of plays, which can be accessed through social networks such as Facebook (@DIRECCIÓN OF CULTURE AND TRADITIONS), Instagram (@CULTURASANMIGUEL) and YouTube (@CULTURASANMIGUEL).
On October 30 you can enjoy a piano concert and the presentation of the work “Bones, calacas and skulls”, while on the 31st, the choir Ofrenda angelitos will be presented and there will be another concert.
On November 2 there will be a poetry recital called “Poetry of death” and for the last day there will be a keynote lecture with Carmen Saucedo Zarco, who will deal with “TheHeroes of independence and their remains” while José Antonio Pompa y Padilla, will touch on the theme of “The remains of the Heroes in the column of independence”.
