Playing at home did not bring the best dividends to the legion of golfers from Guanajuato participating in the Mexican Professionals Tour.
The Las Ventanas course in San Miguel de Allende ended up being a real challenge for the entire field and especially for José de Jesús “El Camarón” Rodríguez, who weeks ago had won the fourth stop of the tour, held in Tepeji del Río.
The native of Irapuato finished eighth after signing a cumulative card of 203 strokes, 7 under par, the same score with which Juan Diego Fernandez, Salvador Rocha, and Isidro Benitez also finished. In his last round, “El Camarón” birdied holes 1, 10, 13, 14, and 16, and bogeyed holes 2, 5, 12, and 18.
Oscar Serna, who lives in the Mexican capital, was twenty-fifth with 208, 2 under, while Luis Gerardo Garza was twenty-seventh with a par of par.
Brothers Efrén and Antonio Serna, both with 141 (+1) and 142 (+2) strokes, respectively, were left out of the final round after failing to make the cut, as was Diego Córdova with 145 strokes, 5 over.
The victory went to Guatemala’s Jose Toledo with a total of 196 strokes, 14 under.
The sixth date of the tour will take place in the State of Mexico, with the course and date yet to be defined.
