A Rising Opera Star From Norway Comes To San Miguel for his Debut Performance

Since his 2012 debut at the Norwegian National Opera, followed by his performance as Figaro in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro – which he handled, in the words of  a leading music reviewer, “with great inspiration and security” – the baritone Magnus Dorholt Kjeldal has been noted as one of opera’s rising stars.

Kjeldal is equally at home singing show tunes, jazz, pop music – and, this time of year, Christmas classics. Click on the photo below for a video of Kjeldal singing “White Christmas” with orchestra and chorus.

Magnus Norwegian has performed throughout Europe, and in Mexico, but his first-ever appearance in San Miguel will take place on Wednesday, December 12, at 7pm, at the Bellas Artes, Hernandez Macias 75. He will be accompanied by Russian-born concert pianist Alexander Pashkov, and special guests Clara Dunham, soprano, and Ken Bichel, piano. The program will include arias from Don Giovanni, Tannhaüser, Don Pasquale, and The Barber of Seville, along with American and Nordic Christmas songs, and a few surprises as well.

The concert is the final installment for 2018 of the Steinway Series, benefit concerts for Libros Para Todos, a nonprofit organization that seeks to inspire children in Mexico to read more, particularly those children and young adults residing in rural communities where access to books is limited. Ticket prices are kept low for Steinway Series concerts, in keeping with Bellas Artes policy, to make them affordable for students. Advance sale tickets are only 200 pesos, or $11 US online (including the online fee) – a bargain price for the world-class artists who participate in this concert series for the benefit of Libros para Todos.
