  • CASA seeks to reopen its midwifery center in San Miguel de Allende as a national benchmark, taking advantage of the upcoming publication of Norm 20 in health
    Published November 5, 2024

The Center for Adolescents of San Miguel de Allende (CASA) seeks to resume the activities of the Midwifery and Education Center, with which they were an emblem of the city. To do this, they are waiting for the publication of Norm 20 ofhealth, in which they had direct participation as it was the first midwifery school in the country more than 25 years ago.

The civil association CASA has provided comprehensive care to young people and women with reproductive health and education programs since 1981. Through their midwifery school, the first in the country, and their teaching clinic, they provided care in more than 10 thousand births and instructed 17 generations of midwives who obtained their professional license in midwifery.

After 30 years of service and in the absence of a legal framework that regulates the effective and efficient work of traditional and professional midwives in first-level care birth centers, the CASA Midwifery Teaching Clinic stopped providing service. However, with the Project of NOM-020-SSA-2024 for health facilities and for the practice of midwifery in comprehensive maternal and neonatal care, it is expected that CASA will be able to reopen its clinic as a National Center for Midwifery Education. Currently, the health personnel who continue to work in the association’s community center seek to attract new members so that CASA can once again be a national reference.
