  • Camino Silvestre will open its altars for public viewing on the evening of Friday, November 1 in both stores:  Correo No. 43 and Zacateros No. 46, 5-7PM.   The creative team at Camino Silvestre is dedicating this year’s ofrendas to the Rufous hummingbird, a migratory hummingbird that has one of the largest yearly migrations in comparison to its size – over 4,000 miles each direction from Southern Mexico to Alaska.   Rufous pass through San Miguel this time of year on their way back to their wintering grounds in the south of Mexico and Central America.   Climate change and habitat destruction have robbed this important pollinator of native plants in the Americas of its food sources, breeding, nesting, and shelter sites so much that it has gone from having one of the greatest populations of hummingbirds in North America to one that is now at risk of survival.
