Local Writers Share Original Stories Inspired by Artists of Galeria Blue Moon and Ortiz Gallery
By Catherine Marenghi
Five local writers will read original short stories inspired by the works of artists from Ricardo Ortiz Gallery and Galeria Blue Moon at a wine reception on September 14, 2024, at 5:00pm.
“We are delighted to host this unique event at the Ricardo Ortiz Gallery. Our partnership with Galeria Blue Moon has brought about an exciting mixture of creative talent. I am honored that my art has inspired an original story, and I will read my own story about a fellow artist in our partnership,” said Ricardo Ortiz, gallery owner.
“If paintings could talk, this is what they might say,” commented Andrew Klein, an artist from the Galeria Blue Moon artist collaborative. “This event opens a new way to look at and connect with San Miguel art, thanks to our five talented local writers.”
The participating writers are, in alphabetical order, Ellen Akerman, Gabriela Cabas, Kim Malcolm, Catherine Marenghi, and Ricardo Ortiz. Each writer will share an original short story of 5 minutes or less, in English or Spanish, followed by the story in translation.
The readings are an example of “ekphrasis” – the art of writing prose or poetry pieces directly inspired by works of art. Ekphrasis writings are not about the artwork, but simply inspired by them.
The event is free and open to the public.
