*The Untold Story of a Holocaust Hero – Lecture by Elizabeth Vrato (on Zoom)Including B R U N C HRegistration for brunch ends March 8*Sunday, March 10, 202411:30 a.m. 2:30 p.m. ( Brunch)Donation: Members MXN 300 MXN, Non-Members $350MXNLast year as part of our Holocaust Remembrance, we hosted an online discussion with Elizabeth Vrato….Elizabeth Vrato is the grand-daughter of Commandant Kadri Cakrani, who sheltered hundreds of Jewish people in Berat, Albania while serving as the top military leader in the region during WWII when the country was Fascist-occupied and Nazi-occupied. Berat was the hub of Albania’s protection of Jewish refugees, with a count of over 600 people saved from Nazi deportation. Albania is the only European country to have more Jews living in it after the Holocaust than it had before.Cakrani took the details of his efforts to his grave because of Iron Curtain politics. His story was first shared in the U.S. in 2020 and is now traveling the globe. In the year since we last gathered, more information has been discovered to fill out the story regarding Resistance efforts, first-person testimony, and government commemoration. We’ll have an invigorating discussion again. It is not necessary to have attended last year’s discussion to participate in this presentation, and there is enough new information to interest people who did attend last year’s presentation.Ms. Vrato is the author of The Counselors: Conversations with 18 Courageous Women Who Have Changed the World (with a foreword by President Bill Clinton), which provides mentoring advice from some of this country’s most trailblazing women leaders, including Sandra Day O’Connor and Janet Reno. Vrato has practiced law in both the public and private sectors and is a graduate of NYU Law School and a Truman Scholar.Phone: 415.185.9191
