Mission Statement
San Miguel Community Foundation (SMCF) grants charitable funds for the benefit of San Miguel de Allende’s most needy non-profit Mexican charities. The foundation’s grants are awarded to charities where a meaningful difference can be made, where there is the greatest need at the time of the grant review and where other monies are not readily available from the community for these charities’ causes.
History
The San Miguel Community Foundation was founded more than 30 years ago to offer these donors a channel for U.S. tax-deductible contributions. Today the foundation is much more than that. Thanks to a generous bequest, the foundation, from its own monies, makes grants available two times a year to needy Mexican charities, as well as providing a pass-through service to those Americans wishing to make a tax-deductible donation to their favorite San Miguel charity.
For 50 years, the SMCF has quietly but steadfastly served San Miguel de Allende by channeling generosity where and when it is needed most.
Our mission has always been to meet needs that might otherwise be overlooked: a small clinic without stable funding, an education project reaching rural children, a cultural program preserving traditions, or a food pantry filling empty shelves. We know that even modest grants, when well-placed, can transform lives and sustain vital institutions. Thanks to our early-stage support, we’re proud to have given wings to several of San Miguel’s most impactful and respected nonprofits.
