Its creation is due to the efforts of Chemist and Doctor Ignacio Hernandez Macias, who, more than 100 years ago, had the vision of offering the inhabitants of the city a recreational place that would serve as a lung for the community.

The land that today comprises the park was originally a series of fruit and vegetable gardens, taking advantage of the water that flowed down from El Chorro. Between 1895 and 1904, Dr. Hernández Macías acquired these orchards and, following the layout of the land, transformed the area into the beautiful park we know today. By planting lush trees and designing a space that invited families to enjoy nature, the park quickly became an extraordinarily beautiful place.

The two original entrances, Diez de Sollano and Aldama (formerly known as Hospital Street), were adorned with cone-trimmed cedars and acacias. In the meadows, gannets were in bloom, while the internal roads were lined with clipped thunder. In the area now occupied by the courts, there was a field full of sunflowers and in the center, a large fountain. The smaller fountains, which still remain, were designed to reflect the water, creating an atmosphere of peace and beauty.

The park was officially inaugurated on September 16, 1904, in a solemn ceremony in which it was dedicated to Joaquín Obregón González, the governor at the time. Eventually, the park adopted the name Benito Juárez in honor of the Mexican president, shortly after his death in July 1917. It was also known by many as the “French garden” because of its design, reminiscent of the gardens of France.

Since the 1960s, Juárez Park has evolved to adapt to the needs of the community. Playground equipment has been installed, making the park an ideal place for families to gather and enjoy moments of relaxation. On weekends, the park comes alive with the presence of local artists who exhibit and sell their work, creating a vibrant and cultural atmosphere.
