The Ministry of Health of Guanajuato adds the timely attention of 13,875 cases this year due to poisoning due to scorpion stings.

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, Gabriel Corté Alcalá, called on the population to intensify preventive measures at home, after the increase in cases of scorpion sting poisoning compared to the previous year.

So far in 2026, the Ministry of Health of Guanajuato registered 13,875 cases of poisoning, a trend typical of the hot season, which requires reinforcing self-care to safeguard the integrity of Guanajuato families. After evaluation, there are enough serums in People’s Health Centers.

Among the prevention actions at home, it is recommended to install mosquito nets, shake clothes and footwear before using them, as well as check the blankets of the bed before sleeping.

Remove debris, wood, stones and pots in patios, rooftops and gardens that can serve as shelter, paint walls with light colors and repair cracks in walls to facilitate the detection of specimens.

In the event of a sting, it is essential not to resort to home remedies or self-medication, as this can delay the effect of medical treatment and aggravate people’s health condition.

Warning symptoms include intense local pain, tingling, foreign body sensation in the throat, excessive salivation and blurred vision, if you suspect it, you should go immediately to the nearest People’s Health Unit.

The Government of the State of Guanajuato thus guarantees that all medical units have a sufficient supply of anti-scorpion serum, for the free and timely care of patients.
