The delegation seeks to exceed its collection goal while strengthening its capacity to respond to complex emergencies and putting into operation a rescue truck that ranks second in the state of Guanajuato and sixth in the country

The Mexican Red Cross, San Miguel de Allende delegation, began its 2026 annual collection with a call to the population to participate through donations and public activities.

During the event, the starting flag of a new specialized rescue unit was also raised, incorporated for the attention of emergencies of greater complexity.

The president of the local board of directors, Leticia Peña, reported that the collection seeks to raise 750 thousand pesos, a figure that exceeds by 150 thousand pesos what was collected the previous year. He indicated that the projected goal is to reach 900 thousand pesos through the participation of citizens, the private sector and organizations.

He explained that the resources allow to sustain pre-hospital services, transfers, medical care, training and prevention actions.

He pointed out that more than 95 percent of the services offered by the institution are provided at no cost to users, which forces the maintenance of permanent financing mechanisms.

During his speech, he explained that the delegation is working on projects such as the strengthening of the clinical analysis laboratory, improvements in facilities and training of personnel and volunteers. He added that these actions are part of a process of operational growth.

The event brought together municipal and state authorities, as well as representatives of civil organizations and emergency bodies.

Karina Berenice Cifuentes Ortiz attended on behalf of the state government, while the municipal treasurer, Raúl Vallejo Solís, attended on behalf of the municipal president of San Miguel de Allende, Mauricio Trejo.

In his message, Hugo Sánchez Aguiñaga, from the state delegation of the Red Cross in Guanajuato, pointed out that the collection not only seeks to gather resources, but also to strengthen social participation.

He recalled that the institution operates under humanitarian principles and that its work depends on the collaboration of different sectors.

For his part, the municipal treasurer stressed the importance of the population getting involved in the collection and participating directly. He indicated that the local government maintains coordination with the institution in emergency response actions.

One of the central points of the event was the presentation of the 551st rescue unit. It is a specialized truck designed to deal with highly complex incidents.

According to the information presented, this unit is the second of its kind in the state of Guanajuato and the sixth within the Mexican Red Cross nationwide.

Guadalupe González indicated that this vehicle has equipment for rescue in collapsed structures, attention to hazardous materials, operations in confined spaces, vertical rescue, equipment for aquatic rescue and vehicular extraction.

It also includes diving systems and hydraulic tools for intervention in traffic accidents.

He added that the unit will expand the response capacity to emergencies such as accidents with cargo vehicles, landslides or incidents in areas of difficult access. In addition, they pointed out that training processes have been initiated for the use of the equipment, in coordination with other corporations.

It was reported that the acquisition of the truck was possible through contributions from different actors, including volunteers, organizations and donors. The vehicle was transferred from the United States and later conditioned for operation in the municipality.

During the event, it was also mentioned that the unit can be used outside San Miguel de Allende in case of state or national emergencies, as has happened in other Red Cross operations.

The annual collection will take place over the next few months with activities such as sporting events, boteo campaigns and dissemination actions.

The institution called on the population to join through economic contributions and participation in the programmed activities.
