The 26th edition of the Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF), which will be held from July 20 to 31 in León, San Miguel de Allende and Irapuato, will pay tribute to three greats in the history of cinema: Joan Baez Tita Lombardo, Arcelia RamÃrez and Luis Estrada.
At a press conference Sarah Hoch, general director of GIFF, said that the concern for the industry is artificial intelligence (AI), so a specialized forum on the subject will be held with experts from around the world, and will even be held for the press.
For this edition, 37 world premieres, 32 American, 21 Latin American and 53 Mexican premieres will be screened from a call that brought together 4 thousand 65 films from 141 countries.
The inauguration of GIFF will be in León on July 20 and will remain until July 23 at the Guanajuato Cultural Forum; which will also be based at the Domingo Santana baseball stadium.
Afterwards, the screenings and activities will move to San Miguel de Allende, from July 24 to 27, and will close in Irapuato from July 28 to 31.
In this edition of GIFF, tributes will be paid to one of the most important directors of Mexican cinema: Luis Estrada, winner of the Ariel award and corrosive chronicler of the realities of our country.
Luis Estrada will receive the Medal of the UNAM Film Library, an award with 62 years of history that pays tribute to the people who have contributed to enriching the world’s film heritage with their career. And he will also give a lecture in León.
Another of the people who will be honored will be Joan Baez, one of the fundamental voices of folk and protest song in the twentieth century, which will present the documentary Joan Baez: I am a Noise.
In conjunction with the Women in Film and Television Association, a tribute will be paid to the first Mexican actress and winner of the Ariel, Arcelia RamÃrez.
Some of the titles of his vast film career include Benjamin’s Wife, Perfume of Violets, Cilantro and Parsley, That’s Life, Teo’s Journey, In a Chiaroscuro of the Moon and Veronica.
Tita Lombardo, producer of essential films for the national filmography, will also be received.
