The Center for Adolescents of San Miguel Allende (CASA A.C.) in Guanajuato, took a historic step by signing its adhesion to the IMSS Bienestar program, with which it will soon be transformed into a Center of Excellence in Midwifery and Well-being, focused on providing free health and maternal care services to people without social security.
During the event, the general director of IMSS Bienestar, Alejandro Svarch Pérez, explained that with this signing “a formal process was initiated to bring free health services, to provide primary health care to the community in a state that is not part of IMSS Bienestar.” He added that an investment in infrastructure and hiring of personnel will begin to guarantee the full operation of the new center.
The space will offer continuous medical care 24 hours a day, with a multidisciplinary team made up of health professionals and midwives, both traditional and professional, with the aim of mainly caring for women with low-risk pregnancies. In addition, it seeks to promote medical pluralism, that is, the combination of allopathic medicine with traditional or alternative practices, according to the beliefs and needs of each person.
The new Centre of Excellence in Midwifery will also have an academic role, as it will provide training programmes for future health professionals, especially in the area of midwifery. To this end, it will establish agreements with public, private and academic institutions, in order to strengthen the knowledge and skills of those who participate in this model of care.
Likewise, it will seek to involve the community in the dissemination of the benefits of midwifery and in the promotion of self-care and family care, as part of a comprehensive health strategy.
A centre with history
The CASA A.C. began its construction in 1994 and opened its doors in 1995, offering outpatient consultation and specialized services in gynecology and obstetrics. Since then, it has been a benchmark in maternal care and in the training of professional midwives, with more than 10 thousand births attended in its facilities over three decades.
Prior to the signing, IMSS Bienestar authorities carried out an evaluation of the conditions of the property to define the necessary resources in its rehabilitation and guarantee its optimal operation as a center of excellence.
Present at the ceremony on behalf of the IMSS Bienestar were Alejandro Avalos Bracho, head of the Health Care Unit; Christian Leslie GarcÃa Romero, head of Administration and Finance; and Angélica MartÃnez Heredia, from the Legal Unit.
Nadine Goodman, co-founder of the Center for Adolescents of San Miguel de Allende, and Alejandro González Rullán, legal representative and president of the CASA Civil Association, also participated.
