The ethnobotanical garden scheduled various talks, workshops and an artistic exhibition in order to promote the conservation of native vegetation

With a wide range of native plants, traditional gastronomy, workshops and conferences, the El Charco del Ingenio botanical garden in San Miguel de Allende will hold the third edition of the Biocultural Fair of Plants of the Semi-Desert, a meeting dedicated to the conservation and dissemination of the plant wealth of the arid and semi-arid regions of the country.

“This is an activity that we are doing every year and that is an opportunity for people to learn about the vegetation that is typical of the region,” said Mario Hernández, director of the Charco del Ingenio, a space that maintains a permanent work of conservation, research and environmental education focused on the regional flora and traditional knowledge associated with plants.

The meeting will offer workshops, conferences and plant sales
During the weekend, various activities will be held aimed at the general public and with free access that will take place in the facilities of the emblematic natural space of San Miguel de Allende, recognized as the only ethnobotanical garden in the state of Guanajuato.

During both days, visitors will be able to find an exhibition and sale of native flora for gardens, as well as substrates and products related to the cultivation of semi-desert species, as well as a sample of rural cuisine to the delight of attendees.

The program, which includes workshops on composting, garden decoration and the elaboration of hanging mobiles and talks on the cultivation and care of crassulaceae and native trees and shrubs of the semi-arid region of Guanajuato, will have its climax on Saturday at 4 p.m. with the inauguration of the exhibition entitled “The Possible Ink”. which shows the artistic proposal of Rocío Ríos by exploring the colors obtained from plant elements.

The fair will promote sustainable gardening
“We are constantly wanting to take actions in favor of the planet and many times those good intentions lead us to make bad decisions. In this fair, visitors will be able to learn which are those plants that can be used to decorate a space that are appropriate for the region and do not require meticulous attention,” shared the director.

The Biocultural Fair of Plants of the Semi-Desert has established itself as a space to promote knowledge of native species and encourage sustainable gardening practices, while bringing the population closer to traditional knowledge and the importance of conserving the ecosystems of the Mexican semi-desert.
