San Miguel de Allende is known around the world for its beauty, its art, and the richness of its cultural life. But beneath the colonial architecture and the festival calendars lives something older — a tradition that predates the town itself, still carried by the people whose ancestors built it.

“Growing with San Miguel” is an interactive conference that invites the audience on a journey into the living roots of this town: the Otomí people, their healing practices, their relationship with the land, medicinal plants, food, ceremony, and the worldview that shaped this region long before it became the San Miguel we know today.

Led by Ana Verónica Ramírez Rodríguez — a daughter of San Miguel, granddaughter of an Otomí healer, and founder of Diyapentu Healing Space — this is not a museum presentation. It is a personal, direct and honest conversation about what indigenous tradition looks like when it is still alive, still practiced, and still healing people today.

What the audience will explore:

• The Otomí roots of San Miguel de Allende — the people behind the town’s origins.
• The word Diyapentu and what it means: the alignment of physical, emotional and mental energies with the Great Spirit.
• Ancestral healing practices: medicinal plants, rituals, ceremonies, and traditional food as medicine.
• The story of Abuelita Carmen — a trusted Otomí healer whose practices are still alive through her granddaughter.
• How indigenous wisdom and modern science can work together for health and wellbeing.
• How to engage respectfully and gratefully with the original traditions of the land we all share.
