El Charco del Ingenio will host a day to recognize the role of these spaces in the conservation of biodiversity and community knowledge
There are places where nature is observed up close, but it is also studied, documented and protected. Botanical gardens are part of these spaces and, on their national day, they will open a space to reflect on the role they play in the challenges faced by the diversity of life forms.
On Saturday, September 19, El Charco del Ingenio-JardÃn Botánico, in San Miguel de Allende, will host the celebration of the National Day of Botanical Gardens, convened by the Mexican Association of Botanical Gardens A.C., Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) and El Charco del Ingenio.
The day will have free entry and will be dedicated to highlighting a dimension that goes beyond the conservation of species: the capacity of botanical gardens to generate knowledge and, at the same time, pay attention to the transformations that occur in their environment.
Spaces that observe and document A botanical garden is a place to discover, investigate and learn, but it can also become an observation point on the state of biodiversity.
The proposal for this celebration is based precisely on that perspective. Botanical gardens have a voice: they observe, document and point out what puts the diversity of life forms at risk.
This work allows us to link scientific knowledge with the experience of those who inhabit the territories and with community knowledge related to the natural environment. The appointment is in El Charco del Ingenio The celebration will come to San Miguel de Allende with activities aimed at the public interested in learning more about botanical gardens, their relationship with biodiversity and the importance of preserving the knowledge that exists around it.
The stage will be El Charco del Ingenio, one of the spaces that are part of this national call.
