International Narrative 4 Story Exchange
Comes to San MiguelBy Susan Page
Note the change of date for an hour-long Introduction to Narrative 4 Story Exchange, “How Stories Are Transforming the World,” with the award-winning and bestselling author of Let the Great World Spin, Colum McCann. McCann is the founder of this extraordinary project that has spread rapidly over the globe, because of the life-changing results it creates.
Narrative 4 has become one of the world’s most impactful organizations in the fields of empathy and education. It is now operating in four continents, twelve countries, and 18 US states. The founder of this Story Exchange project will be in San Miguel in person to introduce us all to this influential organization. He is also a keynote speaker at the Writers’ Conference.
Story Exchange is a powerful tool that harnesses the power of story to equip and embolden young adults to improve their lives, communities, and the world. Story Exchange builds empathy, shatters stereotypes, and breaks down barriers of gender, wealth, race, and geographical borders with the goal of strengthening relationships and changing people’s lives. Everyone has a story to tell.
Colum McCann will conduct an introductory session on Saturday, February 15, in the afternoon at 4:00 PM in the Real de Minas hotel. The session is free, and all are invited. Learn about the astonishing spread and success of Narrative 4 across the globe and hear moving stories about its impact on the lives of people and communities.
Founder Colum McCann is the acclaimed author of seven novels and two collections of short stories. His novel, Let The Great World Spin, won several awards including the National Book Award. His novel, TransAtlantic was an international sensation and became an immediate New York Times bestseller on its release in 2013. It too garnered several international awards including the Mondello Citta de Palermo Prize in Italy.
Narrative 4 Workshop in Spanish
While Colum McCann’s Saturday session is an introduction to the power of Story Exchange, two seasoned Narrative 4 workshop facilitators, Karla Munroy and Maru Castañada, will conduct a full Narrative 4, three-hour workshop in Spanish for a group of teachers and high school students on Monday afternoon, February 17 at 4:00 PM in the Casa Cultura “El Nigromante” (Bellas Artes) building. This workshop is also free and open to all.
“We hope the Narrative 4 concept will catch on in San Miguel,” says founder Colum McCann, “and become part of this life-changing movement that is making a difference in the lives of countless communities.”
