Artist Partners with Caminos de Agua to Launch Dialogues with Mother Earth Book, Celebrated with Presentation and Mural Exhibition at Camino Al Arte

British-born artist Erica Daborn has partnered with Caminos de Agua, a leading local organization dedicated to water sustainability, to publish Dialogues with Mother Earth: Drawing to Save the Planet, a powerful new book featuring her acclaimed environmental mural series.

The book transforms Daborn’s striking charcoal mural installation—exhibited in seven cities across Mexico and the United States since 2016—into an accessible educational resource that invites reflection and action on the climate crisis.

Its publication marks the culmination of a four-year fundraising effort to support the book’s design and printing. Thanks to the generosity of 42 individual supporters and a grant from the Tree of Life Foundation, all proceeds from book sales will now go directly to Caminos de Agua, supporting its work to provide access to safe water in central Mexico.

A 15-Year Artistic Journey
Dialogues with Mother Earth originated in 2010 when Daborn, returning from a sabbatical year in Mexico, was moved to action by a question posed repeatedly by her students: “Why is nobody doing anything about climate change?”
“It was their voices—their concern as young people, including that of my own daughter—that galvanized me into action,” Daborn explains. “I realized I had to use the only skills I had—making art—to somehow make a difference.”

Art Where Science Falls Short
The mural series employs charcoal to create richly textured surfaces that reference prehistoric cave drawings, reconnecting viewers with humanity’s earliest relationship to the natural world. Drawing on the tradition of historically significant murals such as Picasso’s Guernica and Diego Rivera’s History of Mexico, the series confronts how 21st-century societal values have contributed to environmental degradation.

“Scientific facts alone don’t work,” Daborn notes. “I created visual stories that capture the imagination and invite people to explore these issues in an accessible, emotional way.”

Partnership with Purpose
The collaboration with Caminos de Agua reflects a deep alignment of missions, as both the artist and the organization work to address environmental challenges through education, advocacy, and community engagement.
