Hailing from New York’s vibrant jazz scene and on tour in Mexico, the Alex Kautz Trio brings a distinctive voice where Brazilian rhythms converge with the jazz tradition while fully embracing the language of modern jazz. A vital presence on the New York scene for over a decade, Kautz has performed and recorded with artists including Magos Herrera, Chico Pinheiro and Nilson Matta, and recently released his album “Where We Begin” on Sunnyside Records — original music that anchors this presentation.

For this Bacco Series performance, Kautz brings together a trio featuring Brazilian guitarist Marcio Philomena — a New York resident with a deep command of harmony and groove — and Mexican bassist Benjamin García, one of the most in-demand players on the Mexico City scene. The program, drawn from his albums, is delivered with the kind of interplay that feels second nature — creative, unforced, and executed by players at the top of their game.
