With a sculpture, a new jubilee bell, the replacement of the representative tiles, and an improvement of the public square in front of the temple of the San Juan de Dios neighborhood, the municipal government commemorated the bicentennial of the Bringing of the Lord of the Column.

The quarry sculpture was inaugurated by the municipal president Mauricio Trejo, Father Dante Aguilar, members of the Brotherhood of the Lord of the Column, and neighbors of the San Juan de Dios neighborhood.

I am one of those who believe that a town with traditions will always be a better place to live. Traditions have many meanings, they unify people. You can count on me to continue recovering them”, said the Mayor in front of the image sculpted by the San Miguel artisan Jorge Godínez.

In addition, Mauricio Trejo highlighted the complementary works to beautify public spaces as he did on this occasion with the planters and the public square in front of the church.

I know that at the beginning the neighbors said: what are you going to do? Well, we wanted to surprise everyone. We are rescuing all the areas and today this is a space full of peace and reflection.

This is the example and the message that sorrows are fleeting, that pains are fleeting, and that we have no choice but to move forward. It is a new beginning for all this area, for all the neighbors, for all the believers of this area”, said the mayor.

The inaugural ceremony culminated with the ringing of the new jubilee bell, which had not been heard for three years, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, and which moved the people who heard it throughout the neighborhood.

The handcrafted work of the Señor de la Columna is 2 meters high and weighs 1.2 tons; as for the new jubilee bell, it is made of bronze and weighs 200 kilos.
