For the second time since the presence of water lilies were detected in the Allende dam, the fishermen, in coordination with the municipality, resumed the cleanup.
Through the ‘Temporary Employment’ program, the families that subsist on fishing and selling fish will once again extract these plants that have prevented them from carrying out their economic activity.
The first time, in December of last year, when the Municipality supported them with this program by donating tools and paying for their work, they were able to remove more than 1,200 m3 of these plants.
Currently, the presence of lirio in the Allende dam is a growing environmental, economic, and health problem.
However, starting this Monday, the fishermen will work to extract lirio in the communities of Flores de Begoña, San Marcos de Begoña, El Salitrillo, Agustín González, Presa Allende and Corral de Piedras de Abajo; but the efforts are still insufficient, since the lirio is reproducing faster.
In addition, the water lily plague is also a breeding area for dengue-carrying mosquitoes, which is also causing other health problems affecting the population.
In this sense, the Municipal Government once again made a public call to other Federal Government agencies such as the National Water Commission (CONAGUA), federal and local deputies, and state agencies such as the State Water Commission of Guanajuato (CEAG), to join forces as a single team and resolve this environmental conflict in this city.
