The San Antonio neighborhood is becoming the safest in the city, with fewer robberies now, when months ago these were daily.
This is possible thanks to the union and participation of the vigilant neighbors, 3 years ago they created their network “Vecinos Unidos” to protect themselves from insecurity, and later, 4 months ago they renewed themselves, they created their page “Watching San Antonio”, which consists of monitoring the streets through advanced cameras.
They have their small c-4, from where a group of volunteers watches over the streets and from there they make their reports to the emergency system #911 when they detect suspicious actions or also a group where they are in constant communication and where they pass some of the reports to their surveillance room.
The municipal police go to attend to these reports, thus achieving the arrest of the subjects involved in the robberies, thanks to the prompt denunciations of the neighbors.
“As soon as the surveillance council is renewed again in October, the first council is created with the new administration and we automatically start working together and the arrests begin, I dare to tell you that, the whole month of October and November we had arrests, almost every day and what was already the month of December and January, these two months, well the arrests have gone down and the suspicious activity as well, then we are in this coordination.
“The last house burglaries were registered precisely in the week that we managed to reactivate the council, to renew it, and from October to date, we have not had any house burglaries in the neighborhood, so we are enjoying keeping crime at the lowest rate”, explained Juan Antonio Gomez, a vigilant neighbor of the San Antonio neighborhood.
The same police officers, who keep track of the reports made in the city, are the ones who have informed the neighbors of San Antonio, that in the last two months there have been fewer reports of home burglaries, these have been on the decline, thanks to the prompt denunciations of the vigilant neighbors.
Antonio pointed out that thefts from vehicles had not been reported until last Monday night, when an individual from outside the neighborhood entered and did his business, got into a car, and took a battery, but did not realize that there were a lot of cameras watching him in the area, he was reported and later was detained by the police and taken to the police station.
“The purpose of generating this type of information is so that other neighborhoods with the same problems that we had, may they get organized, go to the authorities, form their neighborhood security committee and in some way imitate what we are doing, to us it has given us results, the neighborhood participation together with the municipal authorities and hopefully more neighborhoods are encouraged to implement this type of system so that San Miguel manages to keep its crime rates in the lowest numbers,” concluded Juan Antonio.
